Toowoomba is located 132km west of Queensland’s capital city of Brisbane. With an urban population of just over 95,000, Toowoomba is one of
Australia’s largest provincial cities.
The town is nicknamed ‘the garden city’ on account of its nationally renowned
annual Carnival of Flowers festival. The festival is held
each year in September, with many of the city’s major parks and gardens
especially prepared for the festival.
The township features a perfect blend of the city and country, with an emphasis
on parks and tree-lined streets.
Toowoomba and its immediate surrounds cater a wide range of activities. You can choose to be energetic or hardly lift a finger.
Explore the local art galleries and collectibles shops which Toowoomba is
famous for, take a bush walk or explore the local parks and gardens.
Several places of interest to visit are the Cobb and Co Museum, Raku En Japanese
Garden, and the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery.
The Jondaryan Woolshed is located 45 km from Toowoomba and is the oldest
woolshed in Queensland established in 1859. Enjoy the sheep shearing,
blacksmithing, working horses, sheep dogs and more. Be sure to stay long enough
to enjoy some billy tea and damper, or stay even longer and lodge overnight in
the dormitory or shearers’ quarters.
Toowoomba is part of the greater region called the Darling Downs, which is home
to many small historic townships some with Bed and Breakfast accommodation
houses, the winery district about Stanthorpe, and the agricultural lands about
Warwick.
The area about the Great Dividing Range has dense rainforest, waterfalls,
and walking tracks offering glimpses of the coastal lowlands laid out below back
towards Brisbane.
Bookings for Toowoomba can be arranged at all Coachtrans desks at the airport upon arrival
